I am a Japanese-American born and raised on the island of O‘ahu, Hawai‘i. Japanese sensibility, art, and food have shaped how I see and move through the world, something I recognize more deeply as time passes. Through Shokuya, I continue to learn about Japan, its food, customs, spirituality, and people, and I use design as a way to share that learning with others.

As a designer, I seek to harmonize ideas, craft, and intention. In my creative practice, I’m drawn to considered moments, thoughtful gestures, and the small surprises that spark a sense of wonder. Shokuya embodies all of these qualities. Our team, approach, and curation reflect a creative philosophy rooted in curiosity, care, and the joy of sharing what moves us.

Henry and I initially connected to design a visual identity for Shokuya. Our partnership grew naturally from a shared vision and a shared passion for its ethos. Today, the four of us work as a small but mighty team, exploring makers and ingredients we are excited by and connecting them to new audiences.
