Kobataen Koto Matcha embodies generations of craftsmanship and a deep understanding of tea leaves from cultivation to final processing. Internationally awarded for its quality, the finest tencha leaves from Kyoto are carefully selected and blended by Hyo Morita, the 12th-generation president and licensed tea appraiser. His trained palate and decades of experience bring out balance, depth, and harmony, letting each tea’s natural terroir shine.

What's Special

To preserve these qualities, Kobataen uses traditional brick-built kilns. Under the master’s precise temperature control, shaded leaves are slowly dried with gentle radiant heat, retaining their vibrant green color while enhancing natural sweetness and umami. The matcha’s characteristic Ooi-ka aroma, a subtle fragrance developed through shading, is complemented by savory notes reminiscent of seaweed and the delicate depth of dashi broth.

This deliberate focus on quality and tradition over efficiency produces a ceremonial-grade matcha that is smooth, rich, and almost free of bitterness.
